Interest Group

An Interest Group is a group, however loosely or tightly organized, that is determined to encourage or prevent changes in public policy without trying to be elected. Mostly it is an organization of people with shared ideas and attitudes who attempt to influence public policy.

Both a Trade Union and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (founded in Manchester in 1889) are e.g. interest groups.
